Born This Way

WHAT'S THE STORY

Everybody’s born without teeth, right? Except most people eventually get a mouth full of them. I didn’t. You can see where some of my teeth just naturally moved over to fill the spaces that happened because I was born without a couple of pretty important teeth. They are not hiding up there. I guess they were just never created in the first place – a weird little birth defect.

I never did anything about it because I didn’t know there was anything I could do about it. Oh well, it doesn’t matter now. You can see that my smile looks as natural as if I was born with it. And I can promise you this: if one of my kids inherits this little part of me, I know what to do.

DOCTORS SAY

“MANY PEOPLE ARE BORN WITHOUT ONE OR MORE LATERAL INCISORS”

Lady Gaga says “Born This Way”; we say “Congenitally Missing Lateral Incisors”. It’s more common than you might think. Many people are born without one or more lateral incisors, the teeth right next to the front teeth. You can see in Denise’s before picture how other teeth may shift and grow in the wrong direction as nature tries to correct the problem. Because we have seen so many cases of missing teeth, we know whether the solution is as simple as porcelain veneers or as intricate as a combination of bridges, implants and veneers. Can you guess what we did for Denise? Neither can anyone else! Because her smile looks like she was born this way.
